Evil Eye Charm

Evil Eye Charm, LCP

You cannot walk very far in Turkey without running into an evil eye, the nazarlık. It has long been relied upon for defense and protection against misfortune. The more common evil eyes appear in a traditional blue color, but really they come in all shapes and sizes. Instead of the traditional circle, this particular piece is a blue cube with a horseshow nail crossing through it. Like the evil eye, the horseshoe also holds particular significance for one’s wellbeing. When Turkic nomads roamed, the horseshoe played a vital role in the belief of the tribe’s safekeeping.

Both the glass and the nail are attached to a brown leather strap by nautical knots. The charm comes in its own woven pouch that can be reused for spices or even scenting your cupboard with lavender. You can hang this on your rearview mirror, attach it to your bag or lay it on your entranceway table as a charm. It also makes a great gift for someone you care about.
