The cezve is a traditionally a small copper coffee pot with a long handle used to make coffee. Like coffee, the roots of the cezve can be traced back to Yemen when coffee was born. Deriving from the Arabic root jedhewa(t), meaning coal, Turkish coffee is traditionally made by placing the copper container on hot coals and letting the hot water inside slowly cook the coffee grinds. Instead of head to the coffee shop to enjoy a cup, stay in with some friends and treat yourself to the tried and true. Whether you take your coffee sade (black) or şekerli (with sugar), this special Turkish coffee pot is an essential item to any household. The smaller cezve can serve approximately 1.5 cups whereas the larger one can hold two.
